I took some time today to generate several quick planets. Rendered in Octane, but not using the Planetary Environment Node (PEN), as they are actual 3D geometry, and can therefor be placed anywhere in the scene, and are not dependent on the limitations imposed by the PEN.
Base Ground textures Provided by Ali Ries who created them using the Pour Painting method on Canvas, and photographed them. I then took those into Substance's Bitmap2Material app and turned them into tiled images and extracted the other necessary texture maps, like Normal, Spec, and Roughness.
The Meshes are made from 3 Concentric Sphere shapes, one for the Ground, one for the Cloud layer, and one for the atmospherics.
These Images were rendered then taken into After Effects for some simple post work.
